Check out our video update about Trans Gaming and our future Steam Bandits games! There’s just 2 days left to the Kickstarter and we’re $5k away from our second stretch goal. Spread the word if you can :-D
Our weekly pancake outing!
“My inspiration [for Steam Bandits: Outpost] is the original SimCity. It’s upsetting that there isn’t a casual game where you can build a town online and come back later and check out how it’s doing,” said Jason Fader, creative director of Iocaine. “We want our players to play with their friends, not spam them with requests for energy so they can make one more move.”
Here’s a preview of the Kickstarter exclusive Captain, tentatively named Ivan Starling. You might describe him as a cool guy who doesn’t afraid of anything; an admirable trait that has nonetheless gotten him into a bit of trouble. A run-in with a fleet of Badlander ships many years back cost him a leg. Now he’s back on his feet (one flesh, one mechanical!) and ready to return to the sky, at your command!
Ivan is a backer reward! Please check out our Kickstarter and help spread the word.
If you donate $250, you can design a Captain! We will take whatever description you give us (napkin scribble, drabble, bullet point list, oil painting, 1K page NaNoWriMo fic, collage, interpretive dance, etc.) and turn it into a Captain with its own unique missions and bonuses.
Jason was interviewed by gaming site, Polygon, and talks about Steam Bandits and his thoughts on the casual Zynga model!
We’ve rebooted our Kickstarter campaign after the awesome feedback we’ve received from the community. The biggest change is our greatly reduced funding goal (now at $30k). We realized that we could still make a great game if we aimed a bit lower in terms of content. If we go above that funding goal, we will add the originally planned content, but having this phased approach will help us better launch this game.
Also, we’ve added physical rewards like posters, shirts, and art books. There are some limited “early bird” rewards for those of you that donate early :-)
Please help us spread the word for this project! We have a lot of great developers that have recently lost their jobs due to industry layoffs. Most of whom worked on Fallout: New Vegas. Help us keep this team together so we can continue making awesome games for you guys!
Thanks!
- Jason Fader, Creative Director
Hi, I’m Jason Fader! I was the tech producer on Fallout: New Vegas, lead producer on the DLC’s, tools programmer at Blizzard off-and-on for 4 years from the Diablo 2 expansion to World of Warcraft. I also opened a small indie studio (iocaine studios) where we developed ThreadSpace: Hyperbol and a web version of Star Control. That studio was literally run out of my dad’s dining room on a budget of ramen and mountain dew.
I started out as a programmer, then turned into a designer, then a producer. Now I am back to being a designer leading a team of former Obsidian folks working on a new steampunk game! If you’re interested, you can check out the Kickstarter campaign we currently have running.
Ask me (almost) anything! Some stuff is still confidential, but I’ll answer as much as I possibly can :-)
